Copy This Sales Script And Never Feel Rejected Again
Most coaches are bad at sales. Not because they’re bad coaches or hate money, but because they don’t want to come off as a pushy, greedy salesperson. The same thing comes up every week: “I don’t want a sales script that makes me feel sleazy or out of alignment with who I am.”
This is the 12-step sales script Zander Fryer has personally used to enroll over $20 million in coaching clients at High Impact Coaching. It treats every call as a coaching session instead of a pitch, so you enroll more clients and never feel gross doing it. Copy this sales script and you’ll never feel rejected again.
The mindset: be Yoda, not a used car salesman
The goal is to lead the prospect to their next level, not to sell them anything. When you walk into a call wanting to sell someone, you feel gross and they feel it too.
Think Yoda. He won’t always tell you what you want to hear, but he tells you what you need to hear. He’s not afraid to give the hard truth and challenge you when you need it. That’s the energy to bring to every call.
The 12-step sales framework
This is an anti-sales framework: a coaching conversation structured to lead to an enrollment decision. Here’s the full sequence:
- 1. Trusted advisor mindset. Before the call, research the prospect and remind yourself you’re here to coach, challenge, and lead, not to sell.
- 2. Build rapport fast. Get their name right, match their energy, find one genuine point of connection, 90 seconds max, then move on. Nobody’s there for small talk.
- 3. Set the agenda with the doctor frame. A real doctor takes control, asks questions, and prescribes after they understand the problem. Tell the prospect exactly what the call will look like so they feel held and safe.
- 4. The prison. Ask the hard questions so they understand the depth of the problem and what it’s really costing them. The hurt is already there, you’re just helping them stop ignoring it.
- 5. The dream. Get them to feel what life looks like with the problem solved. The gap between their prison and their dream is the real value of your coaching, because your coaching is the bridge.
- 6. Set your conditions. Flip the script and interview them. They have to qualify to work with you. Zander’s three: be an action taker, be coachable, and have a real reason why.
- 7. Recap and reflect. Before you pitch anything, replay their problem, goals, and what they’ve tried, with clarity and empathy. This proves you’re on their team.
- 8. Solution overview. Keep it under 5 minutes and outcome-focused. Complexity creates confusion, and confused prospects don’t buy.
- 9. Questions check. Ask if they have any questions about what you shared. Don’t move to pricing until the only question left is “how much?”
- 10. Deliver the price with certainty. Practice the number in the mirror until it comes out clean. Establish the real value before you ever say it.
- 11. Fear busting. If they say “I need to think about it,” coach them through the fear instead of overcoming objections. This is your first real coaching session with them.
- 12. Tuck them in. Once they say yes, walk them through the next couple of weeks, give them a first action, and genuinely thank them for trusting you.
Why the hard questions matter
Being nice isn’t the same as being helpful. A good coach tells you what you need to hear even when it’s uncomfortable.
Courtney was a phenomenal health coach who pushed back on the prison step. She didn’t want to make clients hurt to get them to buy. The hurt isn’t something you create, it’s already there. She tried it her way and skipped the part. A few months later she came back shaken: a prospect she didn’t enroll because the woman didn’t think her weight was urgent had passed away from a weight-related health issue. Courtney’s takeaway was brutal: she wasn’t a strong enough leader to have the honest conversation. The prison step isn’t about pain. It’s about the truth.
Delivering price without flinching
Establish the real value before you ever say the number. Most coaches blurt out a price, apologize for it, and let their voice crack.
A lot of coaches don’t believe you can charge $3,000 to $5,000 for weight loss, but hundreds of health and wellness coaches do it every day. Imagine someone overweight for a decade or two. What’s it costing them? Confidence at work, the promotion they never got, the career that stalled. Is it worth $5,000 to get their life back, save their marriage, feel healthy again, be there as their kids grow up? Once the value is clear, the price feels small.
Frequently asked questions
What is the 12-step sales script for coaches?
It’s an anti-sales framework that runs a sales call like a coaching session: trusted advisor mindset, rapport, agenda, the prison, the dream, conditions, recap, solution, questions, price, fear busting, and tuck them in. It’s been used to enroll over $20 million in coaching clients without feeling pushy.
How do I sell coaching without feeling sleazy?
Stop trying to sell and start trying to lead. Approach the call like a doctor diagnosing a problem and a coach challenging the client toward their goals. When the whole conversation is built to serve them, naming your price stops feeling like a pitch.
How do I handle “I need to think about it”?
Don’t fight the objection. Coach them through the fear behind it. Commitment means change, and change is scary. Your job is to help them be courageous enough to take the first step, which is exactly what you’d do for a paying client in their first session.
This framework is powerful, but it’s only about 11% of the whole coaching business puzzle. You still need consistent leads and a delivery system that gets clients results. If you want the full system, work with us here.
